Runaway Army Rape Suspect Found In Florida
LOS ANGELES (AP) —Authorities say a U.S. Army private who escaped while awaiting extradition from Georgia to California is now in a Los Angeles County jail awaiting his first court appearance in the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl.
The Sheriff's Department said in a statement Sunday that 20-year-old Daniel Brazelton is being held Sunday on $325,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in a Lancaster court on March 23.
The statement says authorities brought Brazelton from Florida to South Los Angeles where he was booked on Thursday, then transferred him to county jail Saturday.
Brazelton, a native of Palmdale, created a nationwide manhunt when he escaped from military custody Feb. 11 while being returned to jail following a medical appointment. He was arrested Feb. 18 at a motel in Daytona Beach, Florida.
