Rotarians Honor San Bernardino Shooting First Responders
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Rotary World Peace Conference had been scheduled for Friday and Saturday years in advance, long before the San Bernardino shooting even occured.
Today, the first responders of the tragic shooting were present at the conference and received a loud standing ovation.
It was a packed house at the Ontario Convention Center where a dinner honororing the responders took place.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan was among one of the speakers at the event.
"When I became a cop, active shooter was not a term we knew, and a foreign terrorist attack on an American city was not something we thought we needed to prepare for," Burguan said at the event.
He also added the mourning for those victims lost in the attack is not over, and neither is the investigation of the incident.
On Friday, the FBI said there is about 18 minutes on that day where Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik's whereabouts are unknown.
A hole in the timeline between the shooting and the shootout that killed the duo is troubling law enforcement.
"My concern is that they met with with someone, we just don't know," the FBI's David Bowditch said.
The sheriff told the international crowd gathered in Ontario that they will prepare for future attacks, but will not live in fear of them.
