Rose, Bulls Stun Lakers 88-87 To Open NBA Season

LOS ANGELES (CBS) --The reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose hit a floater from inside the paint with 4.8 seconds left to give the Chicago Bulls a stunning 88-87 victory over the Lakers on Sunday evening at the Staples Center.

The Lakers had a chance to win the game, but Kobe Bryant was blocked by Luol Deng and the Bulls outscored the Lakers 17-5 in the final four minutes of the game to spoil Mike Brown's coaching debut for the Lakers.

Bryant playing through a torn ligament in his shooting wrist, scored 28 points to lead the Lakers, who had nine guys play at least 12 minutes.

Matt Barnes and Jason Kapono were in uniform, but did not enter the game.

Los Angeles appeared to have things locked up, but turnovers and missed free throws cost the Lakers down the stretch, shooting 11-20 from the charity stripe.

"We did some things to help them get this 'W' tonight, " Brown said.

Tomorrow night the Lakers are back in action, taking on the Sacramento Kings on KCAL 9, starting at 6:30 with LTV.
