WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Tuesday was named as the top hospital in California and fifth best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
The publication's study, in its 24th year, ranks nearly 5,000 medical centers across America and spans 16 medical specialties, from cancer to neurosurgery.
"Hospitals that rank near the top of at least six specialties earn a spot on the Honor Roll," according to USNews.com.
UCLA, which also includes a Santa Monica campus, ranked nationally in 15 adult and 10 pediatric specialties.
The 466-bed hospital had more than 23,000 admitted patients and approximately 45,000 emergency room visits in 2012.
"We are grateful and honored to again be recognized for the outstanding work of our physicians and staff on behalf of the patients who seek care at UCLA," according to Dr. David Feinberg, president of the UCLA Health System and CEO of the UCLA Hospital System. "Our goal is to treat each patient who comes through our doors as if he or she were a member of our own family, with dignity and respect, in a compassionate and safe environment that delivers the highest-quality medical care available."
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ranked fourth in the state and 13th nationally by the magazine.
Keck Hospital of USC was ranked eighth in California, UC Irvine Medical Center was ranked ninth and Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena was ranked 10th.
Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Hospital came in at number one, followed by Massachusetts General Hospital, the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic.
