Ronald Reagan Remembered On 10th Anniversary Of His Death
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley Thursday commemorated the 10-year anniversary of the former president's death.
Ronald Reagan died at the age of 93 on June 5, 2004.
KCAL9's Amy Johnson reports that Nancy Reagan placed flowers at the grave of her late husband—a tribute she has made each year since his passing.
The 92-year-old said nothing as she marked the somber anniversary.
"I think it's hard for all of us to believe that 10 years have passed since Ronald Reagan passed," Frederick Ryan of the Presidential Learning Center said.
"He was a happy warrior. Even when he was saying very tough things about his opposition and the Democratic Party, he usually did it with a smile on his face and often with a joke. And, boy, that is conspicuously missing from politics today in both parties, I think," Reagan biographer Steven Hayward said.
Biographer Lou Cannon met Reagan 49 years ago when Reagan was considering a run for governor.
"His imprint is very, very deep in the policies that our country follows today and better off for it," he said.
Former Secretary of State James Baker spoke about his trusted friend who left office 25 years ago, but still makes an impact on the country.
"Ronald Reagan, as all of us here know, was a man of great vision and he was a man of great accomplishment," he said.
