Romney Visits Southland For Beverly Hills Fundraiser
Beverly Hills (CBS) — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was in the Southland Tuesday night for a Beverly Hills fundraiser.
A CBS2 camera crew was asked to leave when spotted outside the Beverly Hills Hotel by Romney's campaign staffers.
The request was not uncommon, as most presidential contenders prefer to raise money privately.
Romney's lead in the polls has recently been usurped by Newt Gingrich, leaving some fellow Republicans wondering if his campaign is on the rocks.
"I think Mitt Romney's been in trouble from the get-go," said former Republican consultant Allan Hoffenblum. "When you stay at 25 percent, 22 percent, 20 percent, and can't move with the publicity you have and campaign you put together, that means you're in trouble."
But not everyone in the GOP is ready to give up on Romney. He received the endorsement of former Vice President Dan Quayle at a campaign stop Tuesday in Arizona.
The latest CBS News/New York Times poll out of Iowa shows Romney losing support in the key state. Gingrich now leads Republican caucus goers with 31 percent. Romney is down to 17 percent, followed by Ron Paul with 16 percent.
