Police: Robbers Beat Beverly Hills Man, Crash His Car
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) – A search is underway for two young suspects armed with handguns who robbed and assaulted a man near his Beverly Hills home just after midnight Friday, and then stole his car and crashed it, police said.
The robbery took place at around 12:10 a.m. Saturday while the man was out for a walk in the 800 block of Schumacher Drive, which is at the Beverly Hills-Los Angeles border line, according to Los Angeles police.
The victim was confronted by two men armed with handguns, who punched and robbed him. They then forced him to take them back to his vehicle, which was parked at his Beverly Hills home, police said.
The suspects took the victim's car keys and stole his car. However, they crashed it nearby and fled on foot.The suspect's had trouble maneuvering the vehicle down the long driveway. They slammed into a wall and damaged the Range Rover and then crashed into some stairs.
Beverly Hills police responded, but were unable to located the suspects after a two-hour search.
One suspect was described as Latino and the other as African-American. Both were believed to be in their early 20s, police said.
CBS 2's Joy Benedict spoke to some of the victim's neighbors and they remained on edge.
Natasha Espinal encountered the victim after he was assaulted.
"He was bleeding," she said. "He said that two men attacked him with a gun."
The victim did not suffer major injuries.
