Authorities Search For Suspect In Panorama City Road Rage Killing
PANORAMA CITY (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Monday sought the public's help to locate a murder suspect in Panorama City.
Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of Willis Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities saw a Hispanic man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was later identified as 24-year-old Jesus Alejandro Benitez Jaimez.
Neighbors said Jaimez was shot outside the apartment complex where his ex-girlfriend lives with their two young children. He also has a daughter from a second relationship, family members said.
A preliminary investigation found the shooting appeared to have stemmed from a road rage incident.
Investigators believe Jaimez was shot and killed after confronting a driver who cut him off.
"I heard the five shots rang out, and it sounded close," a neighbor, Ray Young, said.
Another neighbor, Daniel Sevillano, said he ran out of his apartment after hearing the gunshots. He said the shooter drove away right after Jaimez's body fell to the ground.
Two passengers were in Jaimez's car but weren't injured.
"The guys who were with him, they climbed out of the car. They couldn't believe what happened," Sevillano said. "They were in shock."
No suspect description was immediately available.
