Riverside Man Jailed After Fiery Crash Kills 2 Women In Corona

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — Two women were killed early Sunday morning after the sedan they were in was struck from behind and exploded on Interstate 15, just north of the 91 Freeway, police said.

Julio A. Reyes of Riverside was driving a black sedan south on the Ontario Freeway portion of I-15, at speeds witnesses said exceeded 100 mph, before crashing into a silver Toyota driven by one of the women, whose identities have not been released, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Reyes, 34, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of drunken driving causing bodily injury as well as suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was held on $75,000 bail.

A passenger in Reyes' vehicle, John P. Lopez, 21, of Fontana, had moderate injuries, and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital. Another passenger in Reyes' car, Andrew Saldana, 26. of Moreno Valley. was not injured.
