Riverside Elementary Schools Welcome Students, Faculty From China
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Students at two Riverside elementary schools Thursday had some special guests pay them a visit all the way from China.
More than 150 students and faculty from Tianjin, the fourth largest city in the country, stopped by John F. Kennedy Elementary and Lake Mathews Elementary.
KCAL9's Greg Mills said the kids didn't need translators because they started taking English classes in the first grade.
Students at both Riverside schools, however, also spoke Mandarin with their visitors.
Zhao Zhong Jun, a fifth-grader in China, said American kids are different.
"They are very cool," he said.
The Chinese kids will be in the Southland for three weeks to visit schools and tour the area.
