Riverside County firefighters deliver baby on side of 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore
A crew of Riverside County Fire Department firefighters delivered a baby on the side of the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore over the weekend when she decided that there was no time to wait until meeting the world.
According to a Facebook post shared by the fire department, a truck was dispatched to Highway 74 in the early morning after receiving a call that a woman was in active labor.
"Upon arrival, the crew quickly assessed the situation, loaded the expectant mother into the ambulance, and began transport to a local hospital," the post said. "However, this little one had her own timeline."
Just after 6:30 a.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, paramedics successfully delivered the little girl in the back of their ambulance, firefighters said.
"The delivery was smooth, with no complications," the department's post read. "Both mom and the newborn were in excellent condition upon arrival at the hospital, leaving the crew with another heartwarming story they'll never forget."
The crew onboard the engine at the time included Fire Captain James Worthington and FAE/Paramedics Corey Stearns and Ryan Wafford, according to the post.
