A San Bernardino man has been arrested in connection with a Sunday night hit-and-run Rialto crash that left two young children dead.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. when a Dodge Ram allegedly ran a red light at Riverside and Walnut Avenues. According to Rialto police, the speeding truck broadsided a Honda with the children inside, causing it to hit a tow truck. The two children have been identified as Alenia Flores, 3 and Neveah Flores, 4.

Police said the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Alexis Garcia, fled the scene but was later found and arrested for alleged DUI and murder.

The 24-year-old woman driving the Honda was not injured, but a 25-year-old male passenger was taken to a trauma center in stable condition, according to Rialto police.

Tuesday morning, mourners brought balloons and flowers to the crash site to honor the lives of the girls who died. The girls' uncle, Angel Rodriguez said he is "devastated shocked, hurt sad, scared for the future, worried for my mom, sister, our family, but hope justice gets served."

Lisa Avilez, the stepgrandmother of the Flores girls, said she had just bought Christmas presents for them.

"They were angels. They had so much laughter and joy in them," she said.
