"No family should have to see their child die in such a callous manner," City Councilwoman Jan Perry said. "I join the family, the LAPD, and the entire neighborhood in working tirelessly to find the person or persons responsible for the death of Kemberly Arrue."
The hit-and-run crash happened late Tuesday night in the 600 block of West 49th Street, west of Figueroa.
Witnesses told police Kemberly was following a ball into the street when she was struck. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators are looking for a dark, older model sports-utility vehicle with tinted windows that has front-end damage and possibly damage to the left side-mirror, LAPD Detective Jimmy Render said.
Some tips have been called in reporting cars that match the description, but none of those leads have panned out, Render said.
Anyone with information about the case can call LAPD's South Traffic Division at (213) 485-7336.
