Resistance Is Futile: Postal Service Unveils Trekkie Stamps
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — These Forever stamps will live long and prosper.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of "Star Trek," the U.S. Postal Service dedicated four stamps in Hollywood Friday paying homage to the television show that began in 1966 and has spawned a series of films and multiple television reboots.
The stamps, which were officially introduced in New York last week, are "Forever" stamps, meaning they will be valid for a first-class mailing at any time after purchase, regardless of a change in the cost of a stamp.
The "Star Trek" stamps, which were unveiled at the Hollywood Post Office, include four images from the classic series:
-- the Starship Enterprise in the outline of a Starfleet insignia;
-- the silhouette of a crewman in a transporter;
-- the silhouette of the Enterprise from above; and
-- the Enterprise inside the outline of the Vulcan salute.
The stamps include the words "Space ... The Final Frontier" against a background of stars.
Since the original 1960s television series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, the show has led to more than a dozen feature films and five other television series.
