Residents Returning To Brentwood High-Rise After Fire
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dozens of residents are being allowed back into a Los Angeles high-rise after a fire that displaced as many as 150.
Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott says about 50 people from the seventh and eighth floors of Barrington Plaza were allowed home Sunday night and Monday. Ninth floor residents might be able to return Monday night. Floors 10 and 11 remain uninhabitable.
Fire erupted Friday in an apartment on the 11th floor of the 25-story building. Fifty-one units were damaged.
Eight people — including three firefighters — were injured. One, a 2-year-old girl, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but there's no word on her condition Monday.
The 1961 building had no sprinklers because they weren't required when it was built.
The cause is under investigation.
