Porsche SUV Plunges 200 Feet Down Cliff On Angeles Crest Highway; Driver Missing
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Friday searched for the driver of a Porsche sport utility vehicle that was discovered in a ravine in a remote area of La Canada Flintridge.
Stu Mundel, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on scene Friday to a report of a vehicle that had gone over the side of Angeles Crest Highway.
First responders found the 1991 vehicle which had extensive damage from the fall, but were searching the brush for the driver.
"They have checked that vehicle. Apparently there is nobody in the vehicle or underneath it. That was one of their concerns." Mundel said.
So far, there has been no sign of the driver. He is believed to be a man in his 50s.
An alleged witness to the crash told authorities that they saw someone crawl out of the wreckage.
Rescuers are working under the assumption that the driver may have wandered off and needs assistance nearby.
Rachel Kim, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, ran the license plate number and said it came back registered to a La Canada Flintridge address not far from the accident scene.
She knocked on the residence's front door but no one answered. Kim spoke to neighbors of a man who said the resident drove a black Porsche.
CHP Officer Carlos Martinez, told Kim, "We believe maybe the occupants, or the driver, may have proceeded down in this canyon area. We're still looking. Someone might have been scared. Maybe they tried to locate help. Or they just fled the scene."
