Hit-And-Run Kills Two People In Chatsworth
CHATSWORTH (CBSLA) — Two people are dead after a hit-and-run off the 9500 block of North Lurline Avenue in Chatsworth.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, two bicyclists were struck by a red Toyota Tacoma at about 7:15 p.m. The two victims were pronounced dead when LAFD arrived at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department found the vehicle involved with the hit-and-run nearby. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was transported to the hospital and is now in police custody. The man police have in custody was found about a half-mile away. Authorities believe he was involved in other collisions nearby.
"We got more intel that the possible vehicle that was involved in this collision was involved in another collision down off of De Soto (Avenue) and (Knapp)," said Jodie McGee, from LAPD Valley Traffic Division. "We believe that is the same vehicle that was involved in this traffic collision. That suspect is in custody at this point."
According to police, the two victims, a man and a woman, were riding their bicycles next to the curb on North Lurline Avenue when a vehicle going westbound struck the two and kept driving.
Witnesses claim that the driver was speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road and hitting other vehicles. Police are investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in these collisions.
