Report Reveals That Most LAPD Cameras Downtown Don't Work
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An investigation by the Los Angeles Times has revealed that most of the security cameras in downtown Los Angeles haven't been working for nearly two years.
The installation of the cameras was part of a highly publicized partnership between local business groups and the LAPD and was aimed to assist police in a crack down on violence.
The probe revealed that some of the cameras never worked, while others broke down and were never fixed.
In addition, some of the cameras were never plugged into monitoring units at the police station, the Times reported.
According to the newspaper, a 53-year-old man was stabbed to death within view of one of the non-working units.
The LAPD refused our request for comment on the newspaper story.
