Mike Stoops Fired At Arizona

(CBS) -- The University of Arizona has called a press conference to announce the firing of football coach Mike Stoops.

Stoops took over a struggling Wildcats program in 2003 and led Arizona to Bowl games in each of the past three seasons, equaling a best run in school history.

Arizona is 1-5 this season, with their only win coming against Northern Arizona.

Defensive coordinator Tim Kish will serve as the interim head coach.

Boise State's Chris Peterson is the Wildcats top choice followed by former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti according to AM 620 in Phoenix.

The university will pay Stoops a buyout for $1.4 million.
