Dodgers OF Matt Kemp Traded To Padres In 5-Player Deal
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Outfielder Matt Kemp confirmed Thursday he will be leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers and move down south to the San Diego Padres.
The 30-year-old posted a picture on Instagram at 1:20 p.m. with a caption thanking LA fans for their support.
"It is with a lot of emotion that I say goodbye to the city and the fans who have been there since the beginning of my career. You have given me so much," he wrote. "Your faith and support for the last 9 years through good times and bad, homestands and home runs was showcased through the volume of your cheers and the love for your team."
"I'm thankful to the Dodgers organization for taking a chance on an Oklahoma kid. I believe we control our paths. The paths we take, control our destiny. I'm excited for the future. God Bless."
Pending a physical, CBS2/KCLA9 has confirmed that Kemp would be traded to the San Diego Padres along with back-up catcher Tim Federowicz.
The Dodgers were expected to receive Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal, 26, and two pitching prospects, according to the AP.
The Dodgers were also expected to reportedly pay $30 million of the more than $100 million remaining on Kemp's contract.
