Report: Inmate Violence Spikes At LA County Jails
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Violence among inmates at jails in Los Angeles County and across California has soared since the start of a statewide prison alignment plan, according to a new report.
KNX 1070's Charles Feldman reports figures compiled by the Associated Press show a 44 percent hike in inmate-on-inmate assaults last year in L.A. County.

During the same period, the jail population in the county spiked 21 percent higher, according to assault records requested by The Associated Press.
A similar trend was found in several of the 10 counties that account for 70 percent of California's total jail population have experienced a surge in the number of inmate fights and attacks on jail employees, the AP reported.
The findings come after thousands of inmates were pushed out of state prisons as part of a plan to reduce prison overcrowding under a federal court order.
