Report: Former Westminster City Official Dies In Cycling Accident
LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The Orange County Register reports that Westminster's retired police chief and former city manager was killed Friday in a cycling accident.
The newspaper reports that James Waller was riding along State Route 133 north of State Route 73 when a driver struck him from behind.
The accident happened near Laguna Canyon Road.
Waller's cycling companion was seriously hurt.
Friends told the paper that Waller was a passionate cyclist who rode hundreds of miles to raise money for fallen officers.
BikingInLA.com reports that the cyclist fatality marks the 41st on a Southern California road this year. Waller was 53.
