Report: For CNN, Piers Morgan Is No Longer King

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Variety is reporting that CNN has decided to end "Piers Morgan Live."

CNN confirmed the report.

The date the show will officially end has not been determined, Variety quoted the network as saying.

Morgan, 48, a British newspaper editor turned TV personality, previously judged ""Britain's Got Talent" and "America's Got Talent." It is likely "PML" will end next month, when Morgan turns 49.

Morgan was tapped in January 2011 to replace the long-running "Larry King Live."

He told the New York Times that he believed Americans didn't want to hear him discussing their politics.

"It's been a painful period, and lately, we have taken a bath in the ratings," Piers told the Times.  "Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it."

Morgan was known for not mincing words and banning any number of celebrities from appearing on his show -- perhaps most notably Madonna.

In September 2012, Kelsey Grammer walked out minutes before a scheduled appearance on "PML" when he saw a picture of his ex-wife, Camille, flashed during a pre-show promo.
