Raiders Owner To Discuss Moving Team To Las Vegas
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It is looking more like Los Angeles may lose to Las Vegas when it comes to landing the Oakland Raiders.
Owner Mark Davis is expected to be in Sin City Thursday to meet with officials to discuss a plan for a new 65,000-seat stadium near The Strip.
The $1.33 billion proposed project is backed by the Las Vegas Sands casino group, and more than 50 percent of it will be paid for with public funds.
If the funding passes, Davis will pledge to move his team despite the NFL's long stance against gambling.
"It's going to happen one way or the other. It's going to happen legally or it's going to happen illegally. Why not tap into it?" asked sports attorney Glen Rothstein.
He said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not saying no. "This is really the first time where Goodell has said I don't like it. But I think he may be foreseeing the inevitable." Rothstein added.
If the Raiders don't put all their chips in Vegas, they still have a shot at coming to L.A.
