Chris Paul, Rivers May Boycott If Donald Sterling Is Still Owner Of Clippers
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — As the court decides whether the Los Angeles Clippers sale to former Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer will move forward, player Chris Paul spoke out, saying if the decision isn't made quickly, it could greatly affect this year's team.
With two months to go for the start of the season, Paul told ESPN it is "unacceptable" if Donald Sterling is still in control when the season begins.
"That's something me and Doc are both talking about," Paul said Thursday after coaching his AAU program, CP3. "Something has to happen, and something needs to happen soon — sooner rather than later."
Interim Clippers CEO Dick Parsons testified earlier in the week that Coach Doc Rivers said the team may have a defection at the start of the season, meaning coaches and players may boycott.
"We're all going to talk about it," Paul said. "We're all definitely going to talk about it. Doc, Blake [Griffin], DJ [ DeAndre Jordan]. It's unacceptable."
Testimony for the trial wrapped up Wednesday to determine who has the legal right to sell the franchise.
Closing arguments will begin Monday.
