Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr., Activists Stage March For Justice In Anaheim
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Activists staged a march for peace and justice in Anaheim Monday, celebrating the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hundreds gathered, preaching a message of non-violence during the four-mile march to City Hall on MLK Day.
Leaders from many faiths involved in the Orange County Congregation Community Organization were among those participating and leading prayer in response to what they call violence across the nation.
"King said if there's injustice anywhere it's a threat to justice everywhere," Rev. Mark Whitlock said. "Anaheim is the crown jewel of Orange County. Yet, we have challenges in Anaheim," he continued. "Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, whose dream must stay alive..."
While the demonstration was peaceful, many remembered protests against police use of force that turned violent more than two years ago.
"We need to learn how to love one another," Pastor Gale Oliver, of the Greater Light Missionary Baptist Church, said.
