Remains Of Mitrice Richardson Exhumed For Investigation
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — The remains of Mitrice Richardson were exhumed Wednesday by the Los Angeles County coroner's office at the request of her family.
The 24-year-old disappeared in September 2009 after she was released from the LA County Sheriff's Lost Hills substation in Malibu. Richardson was let go in the middle of the night and had no car, phone or money at the time.
Her decomposing body was found nearly a year later on a remote hillside in Malibu.
After she was buried, additional remains were found and tested and the coroner promised the family all the remains would eventually be buried together.
The Richardson family hopes a re-examination of their daughter's remains will help determine how she died.
The remains were scheduled to be reburied late Wednesday.
A lawsuit against the Sheriff's Department over handling of the case is pending.
