Redondo Beach Police Release Sketch Of Galleria Stabbing Suspect
REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Redondo Beach police Friday released a composite sketch of the suspect they say stabbed two teens -- nine times between them -- at the South Bay Galleria last Saturday.
Police also said today the stabbing was unprovoked and the two 13-year-old teens -- a boy and a girl -- did not know their attacker.
The suspect stabbed both teens in the chest with a kitchen knife. The boy was stabbed six times, the girl three times.
The man stabbed the teens on the third floor of the mall near the movie theater.
Police described the crime today as "shocking and chilling."
The sketch is based on the teen's description of the assailant.
Both teens remain hospitalized in stable condition. Police said they expected the victims would be released within a week.
Reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, Stacey Butler said the suspect is described as a black male in his 40s. He is also described as tall with a medium build. Police also said he was possibly bald and wearing prescription glasses.
The assailant was also wearing a fatigue-style jacket. He has a beard and a mustache, according to police.
Butler also reported that the Redondo Beach police are desperate for the public to come forward and identify the assailant.
