Recap: Mets Defeat Dodgers 3-1 In Game 1 Of NLDS
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The only thing missing from Game 1 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium on Friday night was legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully.
The Dodgers hosted the Mets for Game 1 of the NLDS, where a pair of aces faced off at Chavez Ravine.
Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom and Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw each took the mound for their team's with impressive regular season stats.
Both deGrom and Kershaw held their opponents scoreless through three innings, but that would change when Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy hit a 2-0 fastball from Kershaw deep into the right field bullpen.
Murphy's home run gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the 4th, and was just his 2nd HR off of a lefty this season.
Both pitchers had the strikeout working for them, as a total of 22 batters combined struck out through six innings (11 K each)
A.J. Ellis singled in the bottom of the 4th extending his postseason hit streak to 11 games, tying a Dodgers franchise record.
Kershaw struggled in the 7th inning, walking Lucas Duda, Reuben Tejada and Curtis Granderson before Don Mattingly gave him the hook and went to his bullpen.
Mattingly brought in Pedro Baez to face David Wright, who promptly surrendered a 2-run single to David Wright which extended the Mets lead to 3-0.
Jacob deGrom continued to dominate Dodgers hitters, pitching 7 scoreless innings striking out 13 batters.
The Dodgers went 0-6 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Joel Peralta came in to pitch the 8th inning, retiring the first three batters he faced.
Mets manager Terry Collins brought in Tyler Clippard in the 8th inning, who surrendered a double to Howie Kendrick after retiring Carl Crawford, who led off the inning.
Clippard then retired Corey Seager but gave up an RBI single to Adrian Gonzalez, which cut the Mets lead down to 3-1.
Collins elected to bring in his closer, Jeurys Familia, with 2 outs in the 8th for the four-out save.
Familia retired Justin Turner to end the 8th inning, and set down Andre Ethier, Jimmy Rollins and Joc Pederson to close the game in the bottom of the 9th.
Game 2 is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 10th at 6:07 p.m. PT
