Real Estate Broker From Southern California Among PETA's Sexiest Vegans Over 50
CALABASAS (CBSLA.com) — Southern California, which is known for many things, can now boast of having one of PETA's 2015 sexiest vegans over 50 living in the region.
"I was a little surprised and a little uncomfortable," said Roger Ewing, who explained how he felt when he received the title.
"By nature, I'm a fairly humble person I think and so having that sexy tag on there is a little disconcerting," he said.
But PETA felt the 67-year-old Westlake Village real estate broker fit the bill to a T.
"When choosing PETA's sexiest vegan over 50, we look for a lot of qualities. We look for individuals who want to live a healthy, humane and rewarding life and Roger certainly fit that description," said Kate Tuggle, PETA's online content manager.
While the title certainly makes the single father of two uncomfortable, he is happy about the platform it provides.
"Every second, 3,000 animals are slaughtered in the world," he said.
Ewing gave up meat five years ago and lives on a plant-based diet. He works out regularly, doesn't wear leather, and he has no down products in his home.
"When Roger isn't paddle boarding or traveling the world, he's saving animals. Most recently, he set-up a GoFundMe page to raise $4,200 for an injured dog," Tuggle said.
As long as he's got the year-long title, Ewing hopes he can share an important message: "Environment, health, and also welfare for other living beings."
