Reagan Birthday Anniversary Ceremony To Be Held Today At Presidential Library
SIMI VALLEY (CBS) — Monday marks the 101st anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's birth.
Monday has been designated as a statewide special day of significance.
The Reagan Library will host a special ceremony with the color guard and a 21-gun salute.
A wreath will be laid on his grave by Camp Pendleton Marines on behalf of President Barack Obama.
Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who was a political aide in the Reagan administration, will deliver a keynote address.
Monday will be the second Ronald Reagan Day in California under a 2010 law written by then-Sen. George Runner. The bill did not create a state holiday and does not cost the taxpayers money.
"In these challenging economic times, we can learn much from our former governor and president," said Runner, now a member of the Board of Equalization. "Ronald Reagan believed in the American people and he was confident that our nation's brightest days are ahead of us."
