Rapper 50 Cent Charged For Allegedly Kicking Ex-Girlfriend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Rapper 50 Cent was charged Wednesday with injuring his ex-girlfriend and destroying thousands of dollars in property at her condominium last month, according to Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer.

The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was charged with one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism. If convicted, he faces up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.

Los Angeles Police Department officers went to the victim's Toluca Lake home June 23 for a domestic violence call.

The woman, who reportedly shares a child with the artist, told authorities that she and Jackson were arguing when he kicked open a bedroom door and kicked her.

The victim, who had been in a three-year relationship with Jackson, also said he destroyed her chandelier and furniture.

Police said Jackson caused an estimated $7,100 in damage.

"Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office," said Feuer. "We will continue to look out for the safety of all victims of domestic violence and seek justice for the alleged crimes."

Jackson is expected to be arraigned July 22.
