'Ramp Jam' Ends Early: 2 Wilshire Boulevard Ramps Reopen
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two Wilshire Boulevard freeway ramps reopened Friday, three weeks early and in time for the Labor Day weekend, after being rebuilt as part of a major 405 Freeway construction project.
The westbound Wilshire Boulevard onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway was reopened, along with the northbound 405 Freeway offramp to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, said Dave Sotero of Metro.
The ramps were closed on June 22, which was dubbed "Ramp Jam" and "Rampture." They had not been expected to be reopened until Sept. 22.
Six other Wilshire Boulevard ramps to be rebuilt at the interchange will be closed consecutively – some two at a time – for lengths between 14 and 90 days over the next year, Sotero said.
The next closures are not expected to start until November and will likely be for 14 days. The dates will be announced later.
The I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project will build a 10-mile carpool lane between the Ventura (101) Freeway and the Santa Monica (10) Freeway to improve the notoriously congested Sepulveda Pass.
