Rain, Snow, Hail, Wind, Mudslides, Flash Floods (No Tornado?) Southland Has It All Friday

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Name the weather condition and the Southland experienced it somewhere Friday.

In some places, it was intense, in others it was fleeting but very few areas didn't get some assortment of rain, mud, hail, snow, cold, winds, flash floods or mudslides.

In Cherry Valley, torrential rains created rivers in places where water doesn't normally flow.

Friday night, CBS2's Crystal Cruz reported from the area still digging out from the downpour hours later. Lawns looked like they were covered in chocolate cake. Everywhere you looked, cars were trapped.

One resident said, street curbs are about 14 inches from the road and mud easily reached that mark.

"Must was about that high over the driveway here," said Terry Ihle.

In Cudahy, the rain appeared to have caused a wall collapse. The wall fell on top of three cars parked on Live Oak Street. No one was hurt.

In Beverly Hills, a large tree fell on a pricey car causing major damage. No one was injured in that incident.

A virtual river of mud in Duarte created a headache for many drivers who couldn't move their vehicles. On the plus side, the mud reportedly did little damage to homes. Peter Daut reported from the location in the KCAL9 News at 10 p.m. and he said residents had days, if not weeks, of clean up ahead.

Running Springs got plenty of wind. Wind there made the temperature feel like 5 below. And they're bracing for lots of snow.

The rain also made a mess out of traffic.

A dump truck filled with dirt crashed over a ramp at the 91 and 55 Freeways in Anaheim.

In Sylmar, a big rig overturned at the 210 and 5 Freeway transition road. No one was injured in either crash.

But in Paramount, a big rig driver overturned and that driver was killed.

Along the Grapevine, the CHP considered closing the road because of black ice conditions. CBS2's Jennifer Kastner also said officials in the areas were bracing for as much as three inches of snow.

The cold could not and would not stop people from getting out to do their Christmas and holiday shopping.

CBS2's Lauries Perez said people looking for bargains and deals weren't going to let a little frost stop them.

She reported from Manhattan Beach -- which felt like the other Manhattan in winter.

"It's so cold," said Shannon Santini, "it's freezing. It's ridiculous!"

One shopper took it all in stride.

"I'm from New Hampshire," said Brooks Herrington," so this is still pretty warm."

And he was in shorts.

"I feel OK," he said, refusing to shiver.
