Raiders, Chargers Meet With LA Business Leaders On Proposed $1.78B Carson Stadium

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Representatives from the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers met with Los Angeles business leaders on Monday to discuss new developments on a plan for an NFL stadium in Carson.

Carmen Policy, who has worked over recent months to convince NFL owners to build a stadium in Carson, presented his case at the meeting, describing the prospect as "one grand stadium (with) all the bells and whistles."

Members of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the LA Sports Council, received the same pitch from Policy the owners experienced in Chicago last week.

Policy also showed renderings of the proposed 65,000-seat, $1.78 billion stadium, which he says would be ready by the start of the 2019 NFL season with no tax dollars at stake.

The deal would include giving the NFL eight acres without charge, to use any way they want.

"The NFL owners as a whole are looking forward to LA becoming a rather regular Super Bowl spot," Policy said.

The St. Louis Rams, who also have interest in a move back to Los Angeles, were not mentioned at the meeting, nor was the proposed Inglewood development.

If both the Raiders and Chargers relocate to Los Angeles, one of the two would have to also move from the AFC West into the NFC West, as two teams in the same division cannot share a stadium by NFL rules.
