Pursuit Suspect Hit And Killed On 101 Freeway
VENTURA (CBS) — A suspected car thief was hit and killed on the 101 Freeway Monday as he was fleeing from police.
The man was hit on the southbound side of the freeway near Arundell and Lemon Grove avenues around 11:30 a.m.
Ventura police say the pursuit began after they received a call about an auto theft and spotted the stolen SUV. During the chase, the suspect crashed the vehicle and took off on foot.
"Officers went in foot pursuit, went up onto of the freeway. . . the subject ran directly into the number three lane in front of a vehicle," Sgt. Jack Richards said.
The suspect was declared dead on the scene. His identity has not been released.
A portion of the 101 Freeway as closed as authorities investigated.
