Pursuit Suspect Booked On Child Abduction Charges

SILVER LAKE (CBS) — A man who snatched his 4-year-old daughter during an argument with her mother and led LAPD officers on a chase was booked Tuesday on suspicion of child abduction.

Ever Ernesto Roque, 29, was being in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities began chasing the driver in Atwater Village. The suspect then led officers onto the northbound 110 Freeway, before heading into the residential area of Silver Lake. The chase ended near Fountain and Vermont avenues around 10:20 p.m., when the suspect was taken into custody.

Roque, holding the child in his hands, stood by his vehicle when he was suddenly swarmed by several officers. The child was ripped from his arms, and he was wrestled to the ground.

"The reason they had to finally approach the man was because he was taking pills," Gutierrez said, adding police didn't know what kind of pills were involved. "He didn't want to give up the girl," she said.

An ambulance was called for Roque, who suffered minor abrasions while being overpowered. He was later booked on suspicion of child abduction.

Once her father was in custody, the child was giving officers high-fives, a news camera crew reported from the scene. The girl was back with her mother Tuesday morning.
