Pursuit Suspect Arrested After Deputy-Involved Shooting In Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A man who fled from Orange County authorities was arrested Saturday morning after a deputy-involved shooting.

According to officials, deputies responded to a call around 3 a.m. of a male passed out in the driver's seat of his black SUV in a McDonald's drive-thru in Stanton.

Deputies contacted the suspect and woke him up.

"The driver decided he was going to leave the scene and in doing so, he rammed a patrol car and he caused some significant property damage over at the McDonald's," Cpt. Steve Doan of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

The man then led authorities on a short pursuit through Anaheim and continued to ram patrol cars multiple times, Doan said.

"One of our deputies attempted to stop him and engaged in firing on him and then the pursuit continued here eastbound on Ball . . . and it ended because deputies initiated in what we call a PIT maneuver," Cpt. Doan said.

The unidentified suspect was  arrested at the intersection of Ball Road and Gilbert Street.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Cpt. Doan said. It did not appear that he suffered any gunshot wounds. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect could face charges of vehicle assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence and felony evading, according to officials.

The deputy-involved shooting is under investigation.
