Pursuit, Bank Robbery Suspect Killed After Opening Fire On Deputies
SAUGUS (CBSLA.com) —A bank robbery and pursuit suspect was fatally shot Friday morning after he opened fire on Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies.
The suspect allegedly held up a Saugus Bank of America located at 26811 Bouquet Canyon Road sometime around 10 a.m., officials said.
The suspect fled the scene in a silver Chevy SUV.
A pursuit then ensued on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.
The chase ended in Lancaster near 10th Street West and West Avenue H4 after the front tire of the SUV flattened when the suspect ran over a freeway spike strip.
The suspect would not comply with authorities and eventually began shooting at them before deputies returned fire.
KCAL9's Juan Fernandez said neighbors of the suspect identified him as Steven Bowman of Agua Dulce.
Investigators searched the suspect's home and found dozens of guns, rifles, and ammo.
Officials said Bowman had recently filed for bankruptcy and lost his wife last year, but they couldn't explain what led up to the incident.
