Purina Voluntarily Recalls Wet Dog Food Over Vitamin Concerns
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A voluntary recall has been issued for three Purina wet dog food brands.
According to Purina, workers recently discovered that some of the food tubs may not contain the recommended level of added vitamins and minerals.
The recall includes the following 10-ounce tubs:
— Beneful Prepared Meals Wed Dog Food: Beef Stew, Chicken Stew, Simmered Beef Entrée, Simmered Chicken Medley, Roasted Chicken Recipe, Beef and Chicken Medley, Roasted Turkey Medley and Savory Rice and Lamb Stew.
— Beneful Chopped Blends Wet Dog Food: with beef, carrots, peas and barley; with chicken, carrots, peas and wild rice; with lamb, brown rice, carrot, tomato and spinach; with chicken, liver, peas, brown rice and sweet potato; with salmon, sweet potato, brown rice and spinach; and with turkey, sweet potato, brown rice and spinach.
— Pro Plan Savory Meals Wet Dog Food: Braised Chicken Entrée, Braised Pork Entrée, Braised Turkey Entrée, Grilled Salmon Entrée, and Braised Beef and Rice Entrée.
The affected food tubs have a "Best Before" date range from June 2017 to August 2017 and production code range starting with the first four digits of 5363 to 6054.
The wet food was produced in a Purina facility in St. Joseph, Missouri, and has been sold in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
No other Purina products are being recalled.
"Although most of the recalled product contains all of the vitamins and minerals your dog needs, we recommend that you discard any of the affected product you may have and we'll issue you a refund," Purina said in a written statement.
