Pulitzer Prize-Winning LA Times Reporter, Former USC Professor George Ramos Dies
MORRO BAY (CBS/AP) — Former Los Angeles Times reporter George Ramos, who played a key role in the paper's 1984 Pulitzer Prize-winning series on Hispanics in Southern California, has died at his Morro Bay home at 63.
Police Detective Dale Cullum says a reporter at Cal Coast News, a website where Ramos was an editor, contacted authorities on Saturday because they were unable to reach Ramos for several days.
His body was found Saturday and Cullum says there is nothing suspicious about the death. An autopsy is planned by the San Luis Obispo County coroner.
Ramos worked for the Times from 1978 to 2003, when he joined the journalism faculty at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He also taught journalism courses at the University of Southern California for several years.
Ramos was an editor on the Pulitzer-winning Hispanic series.
