Pujols: Stop Calling Me 'El Hombre'
ANAHEIM (CBS) — There's no question that even just days into spring training, Albert Pujols is now "the man" at Anaheim Stadium.
Just make sure you don't call him that to his face.
Pujols has made it clear he's not a fan of a new billboard campaign featuring him pictured in an Angels uniform alongside the Spanish phrase "El Hombre", according to ESPN.com.
There are 20 of the billboards scattered throughout the Southland, and while Pujols hasn't specifically addressed the issue with any team officials, he made it very clear back in 2010 that the moniker is not exactly his favorite.
The reason: his admiration for Hall of Famer Stan "The Man" Musial, whom he grew close to during his 11-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Musial, 90, was known as "The Man" throughout most of his 22-year career.
Team officials told ESPN that while Pujols was not consulted before the campaign was launched, the "El Hombre" signs featuring the first baseman only account for less than one-third of the 70 billboards featuring Pujols around Southern California.
Pujols agreed to join the Angels after signing a 10-year deal worth $250 million back in December.
