Public's Help Sought In Identifying South Bay Rape Suspect
HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who raped a woman he met through an online dating service.
The rape took place on Nov. 4, according to Hawthorne police.
Prior to the rape, the suspect, who goes by "Cardon," took the victim to a CVS store, located at 4775 W. Rosecrans Avenue, to buy alcohol, officials said.
The suspect, who told the victim he had recently moved to the South Bay from Atlanta, Georgia to work at a law firm, was caught on surveillance video while in the store.
After CVS, the suspect drove the victim to an unknown apartment complex where the rape took place, police said.
"She said the suspect's apartment was inside a small tan complex (10-12 units) and had an open air parking area located in the middle of the location," Det. Matt Lucero said.
According to the victim, the complex was located three to four minutes from the CVS.
The suspect is described as a black male, 25 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall with a thin, muscular build. He has a large nose with a fade haircut and speaks with a slight Southern accent, according to police.
He reportedly drives a new model silver, four-door Jeep Commander.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Det. Lucero at (310) 349-2844.
