Public Urged To Use Caution Amid High Fire Risk For 4th Of July
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Fire and law enforcement officials urged the public Friday to use extreme caution with fireworks during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports the warning comes ahead of what is forecast to be one of the most dangerous fire seasons for Southern California in recent memory.
Public Urged To Use Caution Amid High Fire Risk For 4th Of July
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby, City Fire Chief Brian Cummings along with fire and federal law enforcement officials held their annual "Safe and Sane" fireworks safety news conference two weeks before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The L.A. County Arson Unit was also on hand to detonate fireworks to demonstrate the potentially lethal power of illegal fireworks.
Deputies from the Sheriff's Industry Station seized over a ton of fireworks being stored at a local home last week, Demetriou reported.
City officials will also be taking to social media to spread their message: public safety agencies in the greater Los Angeles area have joined together to promote safety awareness through the use of the #SummerSafetyLA campaign of Twitter and Facebook.
