Protesters Advise Ferguson Demonstrations Will Continue In LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Protesters advised that local demonstrations would continue Saturday against the grand jury's decision to not indict a police officer in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.
A flyer was reportedly distributed on the University of Southern California campus and downtown area.
Instructions on the flyer read, "Meet at USC...In front of the African American Museum in Exposition Park, at noon on November 29th. We are marching and ending at the Staples Center."
No contact information was provided.
Tonight, the Los Angeles Kings are scheduled to play the Chicago Blackhawks inside of the arena at 7:00 p.m.
Authorities explained demonstrations are also expected back in the Beverly Hills area from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On Friday, about 150 protesters marched on First Street, approaching Olive Street, in downtown Los Angeles.
A smaller group also gathered in Beverly Hills in an effort to get Black Friday shoppers to join the demonstration.
Eight people were arrested Friday night for unlawful assembly. One protestor reportedly shoved a police officer during the demonstration.
On Wednesday, more than 130 protesters failed to disperse under police orders after attempting to march from outside the courthouse to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Those who were arrested on Wednesday night for disturbing the peace and unlawful assembly were to be released from jail by dinner time on Thursday, under LAPD Chief Charlie Beck's orders, in light of Thanksgiving.
Anyone who had previous warrants for their arrest were not eligible to be released, and will remain in jail until their court appearance on Monday, Beck explained.
Demonstrations originally broke out Monday evening, after a grand jury's decision was announced to not indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
Since Monday night, more than 330 people have been arrested in Los Angeles demonstrations.
