Crowd Gathers In Hollywood To Protest Possible Military Strike On Syria
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Demonstrators gathered in Hollywood Sunday to protest a possible military strike on Syria.
The demonstration at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue came a day before Congress was expected to reconvene to discuss the issue.
The debate over the possible U.S.-led attack against Syria has raged amid allegations that Syrian President Bashar Assad was behind a chemical weapons attack that claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people.
On Saturday, Secretary of State John Kerry met with Middle Eastern leaders to rally public support.
"Assad's deplorable use of chemical weapons which we know killed hundreds of innocent people, including at least 426 children on this occasion…this one occasion. This crosses an international, global red line," Kerry said.
But European leaders have told Kerry to slow down, stating that the E.U. will not respond until the U.N. issues a report on last month's attack in Damascus. That report is expected to take at least another week.
Meantime, Los Angeles police said they've beefed up patrols in Hollywood as the crowd of protesters swells.
