Prom Night Takes Terrifying Turn For Students When Girl Is Nearly Killed Falling Out Of Moving Bus Window
NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Prom night in Orange County took on a terrifying turn Saturday evening when Corona del Mar High School students watched in horror as one of their own fell out of a window on a bus barreling down a busy highway.
KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold spoke to parents who called the girl's fall -- and the fact she wasn't badly injured -- nothing short of miraculous.
"I don't know how she didn't get hit by another car," said Jules Marine, a Corona del Mar parent.
Many parents were shaken up after hearing the news that 17-year-old Charlotte Boyse, a senior at the school, fell out of party bus window on her way to prom Saturday night.
According to the CHP, Boyse was one of 55 students on board the large bus on their way to their prom in Mission Viejo.
She fell through a left side window and into the middle of traffic on Highway 73.
Miraculously, Boyse managed to either crawl or run to the center divider after falling. Meanwhile other students on the bus screamed for the driver to stop.
One parent says her son jumped out of the very same window Boyse had fallen from and ran to help her.
Parents say the bus was chartered by parents for the kids to get to prom. They say it was rented through a company called Party Bus Limo Rentals in Anaheim.
Weingold spoke with a representative at the company who wouldn't give us their name but did say the bus had gone through routine safety inspections before picking up the kids Saturday evening.
Boyse ended up spending the night in the hospital instead of going to prom.
Earlier she tweeted a picture from her hospital bed saying, "There is an angel looking over me, thanking God to be alive. Thank you all for your concern."
She's now home from the hospital. Boyse's friends told Weingold that aside from some serious road rash, she should be fine, and at this point, doctors haven't found any evidence of internal injury or broken bones.

"That's very scary. My kids will be going to school there next year and that's obviously tragedy averted," said parent Marine.
Parents told Weingold their children were not given any type of safety briefing before the bus left for prom.
