Presidential Hopeful Newt Gingrich Makes LA Stop
BEVERLY HILLS (CBS/AP) — Newt Gingrich is trying to reboot his troubled presidential bid.
The former House speaker gave a foreign policy address Sunday night in Beverly Hills in which he charged the Obama administration with placing "political correctness above common sense" when it comes to global affairs.
The speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition was Gingrich's first since his campaign was rocked by the departure Thursday of 16 top strategists and advisers.
"There is a fundamental strategic difference between the traditional consulting community and the kind of campaign I want to run," the 67-year-old former Speaker of the House told reporters Friday in explaining the rift.
"Now, we'll find out over the next year who is right."
Gingrich will be in New Hampshire on Monday to debate other GOP presidential hopefuls.
Meantime, Texas Gov. Rick Perry -- who's thinking about getting into the 2012 presidential race – is expected to attend a Sunday event inLos Angelesorganized by a Hispanic anti-abortion group.
Polls show GOP voters are uneasy with the party's emerging 2012 field.
