Preliminary Settlement Reached Between Amtrak, Agents
RIVERSIDE (AP) — A preliminary $900,000 settlement has been reached in a federal lawsuit filed against Amtrak by Riverside-based reservation agents.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Tuesday that the settlement covers 886 employees who worked for Amtrak between June 2004 and February.
The original lawsuit, filed by reservation agent Dan W. Thomas in 2008, sought more than $5 million and claimed the agents were not getting paid for time worked off the clock or during meals.
A final settlement hearing is scheduled Wednesday in district court in Los Angeles.
The pact calls for workers to share $542,000 and plaintiff attorneys to get $312,000 in fees.
As part of the tentative agreement, Amtrak admitted no wrongdoing and attorneys agreed not to talk to the media.
