High Wind, Fire Dangers Eases In SoCal
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Powerful Santa Ana winds have died down across Southern California, and forecasters say a new weather system from the west could bring some relief from bone-dry conditions.
The National Weather Service says red-flag high wind warnings for Los Angeles and Orange counties expired Sunday.
Since Friday the region was pounded by hot, dry gusts from the north and northeast that dropped humidity levels to the single digits. But weather service forecaster David Sweet says winds moving in from over the ocean will bring an increase of moisture and cooler temperatures in the next few days.
Temperatures could drop nearly ten degrees, into the mid-60s, in some areas.
Steady winds of 15 to 40 mph were felt in many areas. A weather station in the San Gabriel Mountains reported top gusts of 66 mph.
